Working  Student Positions

Full or part time positions  are often available. Financial arrangements for full time working students are made on an individual, case-by-case basis.  Part time positions offer flexible hours and days, with compensation depending on the number of hours worked. Other benefits of either position include lessons on schoolmasters (including lessons on the longe line to improve seat and position), supervised instruction while warming up and working with young horses and horses in training, opportunities to compete in dressage and/or eventing, riding a variety of horses, participation in clinics and shows at Applewood free of charge, and working in a friendly, supportive environment. Additional income can be generated by grooming, clipping and braiding boarders’ horses. Full time position is a six day work week, usually including weekends. Must have own car. Major qualifications for the job are dedication and desire to work and learn. Other valuable, but not essential, qualifications include riding ability, knowledge of longeing, and capability to handle horses of all ages. Depending on experience and ability, the job  involves exercising horses, longeing and handling young horses, warming up and cooling out, tacking up and untacking, trail riding and conditioning, grooming, cleaning tack, feeding, turnout, routine barn maintenance, office and computer work, and all other aspects of barn management.
